The cottage’s position makes it an ideal base for outdoor enthusiasts while remaining within walking distance of village amenities.
How many people can stay at Torgorm Cottage and what is the bedroom configuration?
Torgorm Cottage accommodates up to five guests across three bedrooms. The bedroom configuration consists of one double room, one twin room, and one single room. This layout makes it particularly suitable for families or small groups of friends travelling together.
Can I bring my dog to Torgorm Cottage?
No, pets are not permitted at Torgorm Cottage. This is a policy that applies to all bookings, along with the no-smoking rule, to maintain the property’s high standards and ensure comfort for all guests, particularly those with allergies.
What kitchen facilities are available at the cottage?
The cottage features a fully equipped kitchen with everything needed for self-catering. This includes a washing machine, fridge, electric cooker, and microwave cooker. The kitchen comes stocked with essential items such as washing-up liquid and kitchen roll, making it convenient for guests to prepare and cook meals throughout their stay.
Is there WiFi at the cottage, and what entertainment options are available?
Yes, free WiFi is available throughout the cottage. For entertainment, the property is equipped with a SMART TV and DVD player in the open-plan living area. This setup allows guests to stay connected and entertained during their stay, particularly useful during inclement weather.
What time can I check in and out of the cottage?
Standard check-in time is from 4:00pm on arrival day, though earlier access may be possible by arrangement with the proprietor. Check-out time is strictly before 10:00am on the day of departure. These timings ensure proper cleaning and preparation between guests.
Is heating included in the rental price?
Yes, electricity for heating is included in the tariff. The cottage features modern clay-core electric heaters and electric radiators throughout, ensuring comfortable temperatures year-round. However, it’s worth noting that electric vehicle charging incurs additional charges and is not included in the standard electricity allowance.
What local amenities are within walking distance of the cottage?
Within walking distance, guests can access the village shop and Post Office (¼ mile away), the Old Inn pub which serves meals, and the famous Talisker Distillery. The village shop is open Monday to Friday (8.30am-6.00pm), Saturday (9.00am-4.00pm), and Sunday (9.00am-4.00pm) with daily newspapers available after 10:30am.
Is the cottage suitable for families with young children?
Yes, the cottage welcomes families and can cater for infants under twelve months. The open-plan living area provides plenty of space, and the location in a peaceful area with no through traffic makes it safe for families. The nearby Sligachan Hotel even offers a children’s crèche and games facilities.
What is provided in terms of bedding and towels?
All bedding, towels, and bath sheets are provided at no extra cost. The cottage prides itself on providing quality linens, and even includes locally made soaps for guests. This means visitors don’t need to bring their own bed linen or towels (except beach towels), saving valuable packing space.
Are there any nearby dining options if we don’t want to cook?
Yes, there are several dining options nearby. The Old Inn in Carbost serves lunches and suppers, while Taigh Ailean pub is five miles away in Portnalong. The Sligachan Hotel offers all-day dining including breakfast for non-residents. For seafood lovers, the Oyster Shed in Carbost is highly recommended. The Three Chimneys at Talisker is open for lunch. We can also arrange for home cooked food to be delivered.
What outdoor activities are available near the cottage?
The cottage’s location is perfect for numerous outdoor activities including walking, climbing, cycling, and birdwatching. The proximity to the Cuillin and Quiraing makes it ideal for hikers and mountaineers, while golf and fishing are also available nearby. The area is particularly known for its excellent wildlife spotting opportunities.
Is there parking available at the cottage?
Yes, the cottage provides parking space for one large or two small cars. This dedicated parking ensures guests have convenient access to the property and a secure place to leave their vehicle during their stay. Note that the access road is a private road used for parking by permanent residents only.
What supermarket options are available for grocery shopping?
While there’s a village shop in Carbost for essentials, the main supermarkets are located in nearby Portree and Broadford. It’s recommended to plan shopping trips accordingly, particularly noting that the local village shop has limited opening hours on Sundays.
Does the cottage provide any resources for exploring the area?
Yes, the cottage provides a great selection of maps, guides, and details of local attractions to help guests plan their adventures on the island. This thoughtful addition helps visitors make the most of their stay and discover both popular and lesser-known local attractions.
What cleaning supplies are provided at the cottage?
The cottage comes equipped with essential cleaning materials including washing-up liquid, kitchen roll, toilet rolls, and general cleaning supplies. This means guests don’t need to bring or purchase basic cleaning items for their stay.
Is there a minimum stay requirement?
During peak season, bookings are weekly (Saturday to Saturday). However, during the off-season (1st November 2025 to 21st March 2026), flexible breaks are available with a minimum stay of three nights at £100 per day, capped at the weekly rate. This excludes Christmas and New Year periods.
Can I charge my electric vehicle at the cottage?
Domestic electric vehicle chargers (commonly known as a ‘granny charger’ or a ‘trickle charger’) are not suitable for use at the property. We do have plans to install an electric vehicle charger soon.
What wildlife might I see from the cottage?
The cottage’s location offers opportunities to spot various wildlife including golden eagles, sea eagles, seals, dolphins, and porpoises. During different seasons, you might also see red deer, Highland cows, and various seabirds. The surrounding area is also known for its diverse flora.
Is there a special offer for booking multiple stays?
Yes, guests who book the cottage between March and October are offered an additional week during the winter months (November to February) for only £330. This offer excludes Christmas and New Year periods, making it an excellent value for those planning multiple visits to Skye.
