"3 hillwalking friends and I had an excellent week at Torgorm Cottage in early May. It's an ideal base for exploring the Cuillin, being only a few miles from Glen Brittle, and the excellent Old Inn is only a short walk away in the village of Carbost. We all thoroughly enjoyed our week at this fine cottage and would definitely recommend it."

The Old Inn, Carbost is the only pub for miles, but it's superb, and serves good local produce. The Talisker Distillery makes for an interesting tour (also in Carbost). Further afield, Glen Brittle is only a few miles away and is the base for many of the routes into the Cuillin. The Fairy Pools is usually very busy (£5 parking charge), but it's quieter further down the glen. The Beach Cafe at the end of the road (through the campsite) is also recommended.

"A fantastic cottage with uninterrupted views across the loch. Really well equipped kitchen, comfortable beds and sitting room, plenty of hot water and easily controlled heating. Parking is next to the house which is very convenient and it is wonderfully quiet but with easy access to many of the islands attractions. The complimentary food from the bakery was absolutely delicious and very much appreciated. The maps and walking guides at the property also proved very useful"

Tips for other travellers
The Talisker distillery is a 5 minute walk away and there is a well equipped shop, a post office and pub in the village. The distillery are also in the process of building a posh new restaurant/cafe. There are plenty of walks within easy driving distance in the Cullin or along the coast. It is also a good base for wildlife spotting. We had fantastic close up sightings of golden eagles quite near as well as seals and porpoise

"Excellent location overlooking Loch Harport in the village of Carbost. The kitchen was well equipped. Especially liked that OS and Landranger maps had been provided too for the local areas. These helped us quite a lot. Directions had been provided very clearly before we set off. Paul had also mentioned about Supermarket stores being available in Broadford and Portree on a Sunday too. This helped us plan accordingly."

A visit to the Oyster Shed is a must for Seafood enthusiasts. The Hungry Gull at Staffin do good brunches and coffees and cakes too. The cottage is suited to watch the sunset at Talisker Bay, which is just 4.4 miles away (A short walk of a mile from the Car Park to the bay). Talisker Distillery is a 5 mins walk from the Cottage. Fairy Pools and Glenbrittle too are quite close. We visited the Sligachan Old Bridge and did the walk at Glen Sligachan too. Niest Point, Old Man of Storr, Falls of Rha, Fairy Glen, Brother's Point (Rhubh Na Braitheren), Lealt Falls, Kilt Rock, Otter Haven at Kylerhea were some of the other attractions that we visited.

"Fantastic location. House was perfect for our long planned for break.
Brilliant communication from the owners. House was fully equipped, beds comfortable, and appliances of a high quality."

Tips for other travellers
Fantastic location. House was warm and well-insulated. Great library of maps, guides and local attractions. Local pub The Old Inn was really welcoming and beer, whiskey and food were of great quality.
Talisker visitor centre is very impressive. The Oyster Shed just a short climb up the tarmac hill behind the distillery is fantastic if you love seafood. A trip down to the campsite cafe at Glenbrittle is a must. Great coffee and pastries.
Coop in Broadford had everything we needed. The butcher on Kyle of Lochalsh is really good, closed on Mondays but the haggis and sausages were absolutely fantastic.
Totally recommend Torgorm Cottage and Skye. Can’t wait to return.

The cottage is clean, comfortable and beautifully presented with wonderful views of Loch Harport. From the balcony you can watch the sunrise over Cuillin and I even saw the Northern Lights one evening too.

A 4 mile walk or 15 min drive to Talisker Bay with it's beautiful waterfall where you can see golden eagles soaring above the cliffs. A 10 min walk into Carbost takes you to The Old Inn and the distillery. Very much recommend The Oyster Shed for wonderful seafood.
